Dear Friend,
This website is for people looking for a way to unite in love in response to national events. Inspiration for its creation arose after a Feb. 28 homegrown rally in a small Virginia town in which two hundred local citizens gathered on a Friday afternoon with handmade valentines for Democracy.
The simple experience of gathering together on behalf of what we loved was powerful. As a result, the rally conveners (ourselves) made a commitment to continue to host these “Hearts for Democracy” rallies once a week for the next ten weeks.
In response to requests, we also put together this website to share our story, resources, and tips, so you can host one in your community too. We’re not an organization — just a group of citizens standing up for what we love, where we live. We’d be honored, though, if our story in turn inspires yours.
For love of country,
Aurora, Caroline, Elise, Leah, and Tasha
Lexington, Virginia

“What matters most to me is being really, really present — face to face — with people in my community. That’s how we stay grounded and resist losing hope.”
“I don’t want these generations to lose heart. They’re already working so hard just to keep hope alive. We have to stand up for them.”
“If we don’t teach children how we’ve made our country better, if we hide the hard parts of history, we have no way to prevent it from happening again.”
Rally Voices
“We have to remember: We the People means all of us. Each one of us individually and collectively — that’s where our power lies.”
“Love wins over evil, but only if we stay awake and refuse to become complacent. We have to fight for each other with love, truth, and courage.”
“Don’t just accept lies. You don’t have to be violent — you just have to speak your truth and not accept them.”
“Children need food, shelter, and clothing — it’s that simple.”
